This month Massachusetts’ education leaders learned they will be losing more than 40 percent of their public school teachers within the next five years, due to expected retirements—the most departures the Bay State has ever seen.

The prospect is scary enough that both the Education Commissioner David P. Driscoll and the Massachusetts Teachers Association official, Anne Wass, have come out calling for a reduction of the barriers that block entrance to the profession.
